Summer Pick Up Soccer
June 10, 2010
During the summer, there will be an opportunity for coaches, parents and players ages 12 and up to play some soccer. The pickup games are for all skill levels as an opportunity to get more playing time and an opportunity to learn more about the game of soccer. This is a very low intensity type of soccer game to allow players the ability to try things in a game setting. Coaches and Parents who are not familiar with soccer will find this a great opportunity to play in games to learn more about soccer. For all who participate, it is a great opportunity for some exercise and create your own soccer memories as the World Cup Tournament plays out in South Africa.

The pickup games will be on Sunday evenings starting on June 20, 2010 at 6:00pm on the U12 field at the Sells Stations complex. All players will need to have shin guards and their own water. The pick up game organizer is Kevin Clark and can be reached at kclark@mcdaniel.edu.  All participants will need to sign a Waiver form.

Games will be played every Sunday until the start of the AYSO Fall season unless there is rain or thunder. For the July 4th Weekend, the fields will be closed.
Warm Weather Tips
April 30, 2010
When the weather is going to be sunny and very hot, all fans, volunteers and players should be prepared. Preparations should include putting on sun screen, having plenty of water and limiting your time in the direct sunlight.

Before leaving the house for any activity outside in direct sunlight, put on sun screen that has a rating of SPF 30 or above.  Having sun screen on will help prevent serious sun burns and help protect your skin from dangerous skin cancers.   Don't forget to put sunscreen on every part of your body where your skin is exposed to the sun's rays.  Including and not limited to behind the ears!

When going out into the hot sun, have a cooler full of water and ice. Keeping hydrated while playing, watching or helping at a soccer match will allow you to stay involved in the game longer and keep from overheating.   Plenty of water before, during and after a game will keep athletes from missing valuable time on the field.

If you ever feel overheated, dizzy or notice that you are not producing sweat when exercising or exerting a lot of energy in the hot sun, seek shelter in the shade immediately and drink water before calling for help.

Doing these simple things will help keep all players, volunteers and fans from serious illness or health situations.
